Problem with HTTPS (FORCE_SSL_ADMIN) with WordPress 3 and 3.0.1

I cannot risk sending my WordPress ‘admin’ password in the clear. SO I was pleased to learn about FORCE_SSL_ADMIN. But when I use this, the Dashboard is badly broken (some automatic admin content like WordPress News is missing) and tags just don’t work at all.

Is this a known issue? I must be doing something wrong. An ecosystem with so many wonderful plugins for spam protection and login security surely would make sure everything works with SSL, right?
