• For some reason no matter what I try when I try to embed something from YouTube, Spotify, Podbean, Soundcloud or any other inbuilt players on my Word Press site, it instead shows up on my page as a giant grey box with the player either taking up 1/4 or 1/8 of the box, but you can’t actually access or click on it. It’s like it is just a picture.

    Any ideas?

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and switch to the default Twenty Twenty theme. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of the problem.

If you can install plugins, install Health Check. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

Hi James, thank you for your reply.
Unfortunately I don’t seem to have access to change the plugin settings on the site. I guess I haven’t been given full access!
Is there anything else you can suggest? It’s very frustrating because all I want to do is get the embed to show up and be clickable.

I’ve even tried youtube, Spotify and Soundcloud as you can see here, all with the same result:

As this is most likely a plugin or theme compatibility issue, you will need Administrator access to track down the cause.

Sorry for coming back to this, but I still haven’t had any luck unfortunately!
I have managed to gain Admin access though.
I’ve disabled all plugins and that didn’t change anything.
But I changed to the default theme and instantly the embedding worked!
However, obviously I needed to change it back to the customised theme.

So I guess the good news is it is something to do with the custom basketball theme. But do you have any idea what I can do now or should be looking to try and change to get the embedding to work with that theme??

The good news is, you shouldn’t have an issue with any theme build in the last few years, these are all free: https://wordpress.org/themes/browse/new/

The bad news is, something is wrong in your custom theme. As it is a custom theme, you’ll need to get in touch with the person who developed it.

Hello, I have the same problem as @chrispike187. This just starts happening a couple of weeks ago. My embedded Spotify player stop working on my website. I even try to embed the podcast into another website with different themes and with an older WordPress version, just to try it out. I’m still getting the same problem. Any ideas on how to fix it.
    Thank you.
