 * Just to let others know I used the code below to fix the blank space issue.

    background: #fff; }
 * #content .article-box:nth-child(even) {
    background: #fff; }
 * Just change background to match your site, I’ve been using this code for about
   a month now and I haven’t noticed any problems.
