    Hi,

On one of the sites that I manage there appears to be an issue when I move from version 19.1 to 19.2 in which the admin shows a white screen. In the error log for that domain I see Fatal error related to Allocated memory (PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of xxxxxxxx bytes exhausted). The site has the following definition in the wp-config.php file: define( ‘WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ‘512M’ );.
I contacted the hosting company, and they advised me that the 512M limit should be more than sufficient.

I manage some other sites, and this issue does not appear to be affecting them. Could you advise how I may be able to debug what is happening with the Yoast plugin in order to be able to upgrade to the latest version?

    Many thanks for your time.

    Kind regards,
    jj 🙂

  • I’m also experiencing this with one site but not any others. Rolled back to 19.1.

Do you have a large number of posts on the site?

@swb1192 Thanks for mentioning your own experience.

The site I am having issues with has 1 post, and 12 pages which have been created. I would be interested to know the plugins, and themes that your problem site is encountering, to be able to establish if there is overlap?

I too downgraded to 19.1 and the problem disappeared.

Please let me know if you are willing to compare installed plugins/themes.

    Wishing you a great day.

    Kind regards, jj 🙂

@jeroenrotty Is this a known issue?

@swb1192 @jjthornton No this isn’t a known issue with the 19.2 update, and we’re sorry to hear you are experiencing this issue on your site.

Can you please confirm whether the issue persists if you update to most recent version of Yoast SEO version 19.3? You can learn more about updating here: How can I update my free plugin?

Also, can you confirm you are using WordPress 6.0.1? You can check by clicking on the W in the top left and selecting About. If you need to update, please check with your host provider. Please know that if you are using an older version of WordPress Core you may experience unexpected behavior with Yoast. This guide explains more: https://yoast.com/why-we-dont-support-old-wordpress-versions/

If you update to the most current version of WordPress and Yoast, does this resolve the issue?

If you have confirmed both WordPress and the Yoast SEO plugin are up to date and the problem is still occurring, we would next recommend a conflict check. You can sometimes experience functionality problems or unexpected behavior from the plugin due to plugin or theme conflicts. Can you confirm you have performed a complete plugin/theme conflict check by disabling other plugins, and resetting the theme to a default such as TwentyTwenty? We have additional information on how to check for a conflict here: How to check for plugin conflicts.

@devnihil I have updated to Yoast 19.3 and the latest version of WordPress (6.0.1) and it’s still taking down my sites.

PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 536870912 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 712704 bytes) in /wp-includes/functions.php on line 6973

This seems to be a growing issue as I look around the forums. Sticking with Yoast 19.1 avoids this issue.

@devnihil Finally figured it out – the conflict is with Nelio A/B Testing. https://wordpress.org/plugins/nelio-ab-testing/

@devnihil I was still having problems with the Fatal Allowed Memory issue up to 19.5.1. At this point I dug into the situation a little and realised it is due to a conflict with WordPress Persistent Login plugin. After removing the plugin, all was fine once more.

Thank you for all the work that the Yoast team put into developing this plugin.

^ Ah, yes, that seems to be the real culprit.
