# Problem while upgrading to 2.1

 * I followed all the steps of the upgrade but when I tried to run the upgrade program:
   
   [http://www.websage.net/wordpress/wp-admin/upgrade.php](http://www.websage.net/wordpress/wp-admin/upgrade.php)
   I got the following error message:
 * Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘;’, expecting T_VARIABLE or ‘$’ in /home/
   websagen/public_html/wordpress/wp-includes/post.php on line 828
 * This looks very similar to previous problems I had when I tried to upgrade to
   a previous version. Any assistance would be appreciated!

 * I deleted all the files, deleted the database, everything. Tried installing 2.1
   from scratch and got the same error. Any idea what is going on??

 * I tried to install WP 2.1 in a totally new installation on another host and got
   the same error:

 * This second time did you try to use a fresh copy of the files/package or the 
   same one as in your previous attempt? It sounds like a corrupted file (it happens
   more often than you’d think!) -so, I’d try it again with a new download.
