Problem viewing archive

I’m trying to add archive links to my blog. By default, a call to wp_get_archives() returns links that look like this:

/blogs/2009/12/

but those links are just displaying my index template.

Individual posts DO work using:

/blogs/2009/12/name-of-blog-post/

If somebody could offer any pointers, that would be great.
