Problem Using IE to Embed a Video

  • I’ve confirmed this same behavior in Internet Explorer (and only IE).

No matter where the cursor is in the post, the shortcode always gets inserted at the very beginning of the visual editor.

Internet Explorer is pretty crappy when it comes to retaining cursor position in textareas. There a bunch of IE-specific work-arounds to address this in WordPress.

I believe I’m doing it correctly though:

But I will double check that I am (based on your reports, I am not) and refresh my code if necessary. I think there is a helper function provided by WordPress these days that does a better job than my code but I can’t remember for sure off the top of my head. I do know that the editor API was overhauled recently though.

    Thanks.

Out of curiosity, is there a reason you’ve chosen your popup window method over just using ThickBox? It seems you’d be able to drastically cut down on the code required for your UI, while providing better IE support.
