I recently updated to WP3.6 and am now having trouble uploading new media. There are no error messages but when I upload an image, I get this in my library.

The following link is what it looks like when I upload new media.

When i try to use the image on site I get this on the site.

I have tried this with multiple files and file types and through multiple browsers and operating systems in attempts to troubleshoot the problem. No luck though.

    Please Help.
    Thanks
    Antek

  • Have you tried deactivating all plugins (yes, all) to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s). Have you tried switching to the Twenty Twelve theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

I have tried both deactivating and deleting all plugins as well as switching to the Twenty Twelve theme. Neither when tested together, or separately fixed the problem.

Is the wp-content folder writable? Can you ftp an image?

The wp-content folder is writable and I can FTP an image. The problem is once i FTP an image, I am unable to access it through the the WordPress interface.

FTP’d images do not show up in the media library. That is correct.

Can you post a link to an ftp’d image?

This still sounds like a rights related issue. In the uploads folder what are your permissions set to?

Other than that I would inspect the element to make sure it is pointing to the correct path for the image file. If not, that would be a different issue.

Permissions on the uploads folder in the FTP are web visible. Content that I have uploaded prior to updating to 3.6 is there and no problem.

Here is a link to the image I uploaded to the FTP
    http://tinyurl.com/kafwqv2

    It links without a problem.

Also, when I am in the WordPress interface and I click edit, the image is visible. But only in edit mode.

At adding a new post or where?

    Media > Library > Image > Edit

So there is the “no can find image symbol” in the media library and when you click on edit it show up but not when you click on view. Is that correct?

    Yes.

And if you copy the permalink that is listed above and put it in your browser the picture shows up fine most likely.

You could always check server logs but he only thing I can suggest is delete the wp-admin and wp-includes folders. Do not delete the wp-content folder.
Download fresh copies of the folders and then upload them to the server. Make sure you delete the folders, not just copy over.

OK. Finally was able to find and fix the problem. I suppose its a rookie mistake. Haven’t updated media since I changed over directories a month ago or so. Guess i never changed the WordPress Media upload directory.

Here is a pic of what the problem was. It seems I was able to resolve it.

Thank you very much for all of your help. I have marked this topic as resolved.

Also, when you use that image in a post and it doesn’t show up, if you go to the text screen what does the path say?

Glad you got it. I guess having 2 uploads folders was confusing. The new media setting screen, http://codex.wordpress.org/File:options-media.png doesn’t have a place to even change that as it is the default.

But strangely I have it and apparently you have it.
