Hi – I’m trying to use the File Upload Types plugin to allow me to upload an audio file with a .m4a extension.

I’ve used the MIME Type File Checker at htmlstrip and it says the file type is video/mp4

Then I created a custom file type with MIME Type: video/mp4 and Extension: .m4a but it didn’t work.

I still get the same error:
    “audio.m4a” has failed to upload.
Sorry, this file type is not permitted for security reasons.

Any idea what I’m doing wrong?

  • Hey @eamonlaser,

I apologize for the delay in response.

.m4a file usually have ‘audio/m4a’ or ‘audio/mp4’ mime type. You can add both mime type separating by comma.

Can you please try that? If you still see an error, could you share the file you’re trying to upload?

    Thanks!

Hi. I have installed html5 plug-in and still I get a message not permitting the uploading of an audioclip 4ma.I have a blog on wordpress.org and use the voice recorder on my phone to read my own very short stories. It would mean so much to me to include an audioclip in my posts. After getting html5 I can now see my audio files which is nice. I am not tech savvy at all. What would be my next step? Thanks for any help you can offer. Vivienne

Hi There, I am also having this issue. The recordings save as .m4a files, which seems to be supported by the current WP version. Not sure what I’m missing here, should be straightforward upload…

Clearly it’s broken, WP that is..I have tried a media upload, browser upload, even uploaded the file via FTP to the media folder and it does not appear in the Media tab in WP dashboard.

It’s probably a security feature or something, but it LITERALLY says .m4a is supported, so what am I missing? lol
