ERROR: Signal 15 is sent to script! Means that the backup script have become a request that it schuld be terminated. The backup Script must follow them.
In next Version the MEssages will be displayed a bit better.
You can try to setup the maximum script execution time tom 30 secounds in BAckWpup > Settings > Tab: Jobs.

The script ran for 3 seconds before experiencing the first error. So it’s not an issue of a script running too long.
It’s more likely that you don’t have enough memory for your PHP process available.

That did not change as far as I know. It’s a hosted setup, so I can’t change that easily.

That are only 30 MB of memory. With hoster is it ?
You can try to reduce server load. You can configure that under BackWPup > Settings > Tab: Job the last point.

The blog is hosted by https://www.siteground.com/ and so far, I did not have problems with them (it has been running there for five+ years).
They give me the option to switch between different PHP versions but that did not help either:-( So something is really screwed up here:-(
I tried to set the Reduce Server Load' tomaximum sleep’ but that did not help either:-(

I tried to run the backup on the command line and after changing the timeout etc, it seems to finish successfully?!
The only thing is, it’s taking 204 seconds at least where the [web] PHP has a limit of 120 seconds. But the problems started way before the 120 seconds limit:-(

I used the little startup script above in a [system] cron job (and somehow left the minutes as *:-() and that worked as expected (for a full hour:-().
So I’m happy for now but I would prefer to use `just the WP installation again’ if at all possible. Using that little script could potentially break upgrades down the line:-(

if ou use command line backup it is easyer to use wp-cli.org BAckWPup supports it.

I tried to comment the echo ' '; line as suggested in the other thread. That helped somewhat. But I still see one signal 15 in the log. The script recovers/restarts and seems to finish fine after that. So it looks like there is something else going on.

Actually, it looks like the the echo ' '; comment did not help much at all. I also changed the Reduce Server Load to disabled and that seemed to have done the trick:-( After setting that back to medium, I see many signal 15s again and the backup isn’t completely successful.
So, I guess, I’ll stick with my outside-cron for now.
Thanks, and nice to know. The options can help or can do the contrary. I try to set it per default so that it works for the most.
