    Hi
I’ve just installed and activated this plugin on my blog. I’m not a developer, not used to working with code or using FTP programs, and from the plugin description I was hoping if I stuck to the ‘basic’ settings, it would all pretty much work automatically.

As you recommend, I thought I’d begin by backing up the htaccess file and saving a copy to my computer. On the video on your website
    http://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/how-to-restore-the-htaccess-file-when-using-the-all-in-one-wp-security-plugin-5945

when you click the backup button, it gives a clear link to ‘your htacccess file’, so it can be copied and saved elsewhere. But when I clicked on the backup button, I got the following message:

Your .htaccess file was successfully backed up! Using an FTP program go to the “/wp-content/aiowps_backups” directory to save a copy of the file to your computer.

That’s kinda different to what was in your video, and gives me a problem, because I’ve no idea how to get to it. Is the video out of date? And can you tell me in non-developer speak how I can get to that backup so I can save a copy to my computer, otherwise I’m stuck at the beginning, because I’m reluctant to implement the security features if they might mess with that file and I can’t get it back if something goes wrong.

Hope someone can advise. And if the video is out of date, someone might think to update it.

    Thanks

    Hi,
We slightly changed the behaviour of this for security reasons.
Getting your backed up .htaccess file is easy if you have an FTP client such as filezilla but if you are unable to use an FTP client you can do one of the following:
    1) you can use your cpanel filemanager to traverse to the
/wp-content/aiowps_backups/ directory. When you are in this directory simply download the .htaccess.backup file.

    2) ask your host provider to download it for you. Just tell them to get the .htaccess.backup file located in the following folder of your wordpress installation:
    /wp-content/aiowps_backups

    Hi

I logged into my cpanel and managed to track the htaccess file backup down, but have zero FTP knowledge and no FTP client software so can’t personally get it across.

However I spoke to my web hosts (TSO) and they said they keep daily backups of my site going back 30 days, including my htaccess file, so if AIOWPS did something horrible to my htaccess file and/or site, they would be able to restore a backup for me.

On that basis I’ll press on with completing the AIOWPS settings and keep my fingers crossed it all goes smoothly anyway.

    Thanks
