After installing Bulletproof anti-spam plugin, I found the WP site itself wasn’t bulletproof.

Before installing Bulletproof I ran a full backup using #BackUpWordPress and kept the backup offsite.

After running Bulletproof processes I lost access to all WP files, and so was unable to deactivate/uninstall Bulletproof, I tired deleting the new .htaccess files Bulletproof created. No luck still (only white screen with any URL) so I decided to delete all of the WP files and restore from the backup.

After all backed-up files were restored, I had the basic site including static index page content, but no links and other plugin content missing. I deleted the database entirely and repopulated the tables from the backup using PHPMyAdmin.

Looking at the database content, all appears present and correct, including page slugs. I’ve also checked the database credentials in the wp-config.php file which are correct.

Now however no content can be seen. It’s a hell of a job manually recreating the site so I’m hoping someone can help me here.

The URL is http://empirebay.net although there’s nothing to see there.

Well, folks – problem solved by experimentation driven by desperation. The public root .htaccess file was empty and therefore not running PHP. Copied .htaccess paramenters from another functioning wordpress site and all OK. Anyone reading this treat Bulletproof with great caution – it’s probably best used by someone with the skills sufficient no to actually need. A dangerous weapon in the hands of those who need it most.
