 * The page called “First Steps With WordPress”, contain this: “Begin by logging
   into the “administration area” or the back end of your website. Visit your site’s
   login page by placing “wp-admin” after your domain name (e.g. [http://example.com/wp-admin&#8221](http://example.com/wp-admin&#8221);
 * I have a local install, and this address will run my WordPress site:
 * [http://localhost:81/newwordpressite](http://localhost:81/newwordpressite)
 * However, when I type in the following address, IE9 says, “Internet Explorer cannot
   display the webpage”:
 * [http://localhost:81/newwordpressite/wp-admin](http://localhost:81/newwordpressite/wp-admin)
 * I’m using Wamp, and the actual directory on my PC is:
 * C:\wamp\www\newwordpresssite\wp-admin
 * First of all, I’m puzzled by how calling up the administration site in this way
   can even work at all – all the files in the “wp-admin” directory have .PHP extensions,
   and I don’t think they will work if you run them directly in a browser, at least
   this won’t run:
 * [http://localhost:81/newwordpressite/wp-admin/admin.php](http://localhost:81/newwordpressite/wp-admin/admin.php)
 * So, as usual, I’m “WordPressed” for an answer that makes sense.

 * The issue is with your server – not WordPress. Most servers are configured to
   automatically look for an index.php or index.html file when the url request simply
   points to a folder. In the case of wp-admin, it’s index.php. Try researching
   how to set up DirectoreyIndex in your server’s config.

 * I’m not sure what happened – I rebooted and now it’s finding the WordPress login
   screen. The problem is that I don’t know what username and password it wants.
   The documentation appears to be no help, it just says, “log in” without telling
   you how to get a login.
 * I’m trying to username and password to the database in wp-config.php, and it
   doesn’t like those. I’m trying the username and password I use to login to this
   forum, and it rejects those. When I try to have my password emailed to me, it
   says that email address is not found, even though it’s the one associated with
   my forum account. Then I went to wordpress.com and signed up for a “blog”, putting
   in a username, password, and email. I’m able to log in to my “blog” administrative
   page, but when I try to use that username and password to log in to my local
   site, it thinks the username and passwords are invalid, and when I try to reset
   the password, it claims that, “ERROR: There is no user registered with that email
   address.”

 * No. Your admin login details are completely different. They were set up (and
   displayed to you) when you were installing WordPress. You will probably need
   to reset your password. See:

 * Part of my problem is that I didn’t “install” WordPress – I just unzipped a file
   containing an already-existing WordPress site. The “Edit Users Table” in the
   Login Trouble site is what directed me to reset the password, which let me log
   on – thanks!
