I have disabled all plugins, cleared cache etc. and this still happens: I am simply updating some content on my homepage. When I try to “Preview” the changes (or update them), My browser says Problem Loading Page in the tab, and the body of the page says the “The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.”

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.”

This was not happening about 2 hours ago. Once i get this error, I cannot get to my website either. But if I close my browser, clear cookies and history, then log back in, I can go to my page just fine, login to my dashboard fine, but get the same error when I try to preview or save.

Is there a known issue? I have not seen one thus far, but may have missed it. Any ideas how to fix?

  • Hi Jon,

I’m trying to get to the bottom of this issue myself. I’ve seen it occur quite frequently over the past couple of weeks – but only in Firefox, not Chrome.

Do you have any add-ons installed which affect cookies, javascript or otherwise make any other performance tweaks?

Yes, I’m in Firefox too. I did recently install Webroot security to scan for viruses and malware. Wehn I read your response, I realized it may not just be plugins within WP that could cause problems. I deleted Webroot, and the problem seems to be fixed!

I’ll re-post on here if it comes back as I’ll be doing more editing today.

    Thanks for the tip!

Well, nevermind. I’m getting the error again. What’s odd is everything was fine until last night. Both with or without plugins activated, and with or without the Webroot addon.

    Going nuts now.

It is happening in Chrome as well. But the onscreen message is something like No Data Returned. But it still will not load anything.

If it’s happening in Chrome too, I’d be inclined to suspect something on your web hosting more than on your desktop. I have seen various posts on the web regarding mod_security settings being a bit too restrictive on the server (mod_security is an Apache web server module that can limit certain types of access).

That being said, in my case I think I have isolated it to being a problem with cookies. It seems that when cookies have reached a certain age, the problem appears. I don’t get the problem in Chrome.

So, I think although the symptoms are the same, the causes may be different.

    Who do you host with?
