I am trying to set up a multisite environment and am having troubles loading images to subsites.

I am running in a managed hosting environment running Linux with cPanel.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled WP to ensure that I was working with a clean install. The install is performed with the hosting company’s “Installatron”.

I have not added any plugins and have disabled the ones that were active.

I am using the Twenty Thirteen theme and have not added any others. I will be using the “Responsive” theme for my site once I get past this issue.

I am very much a novice, have looked through posts on this issue, have called my hosting company, and still can’t solve this.

On a fresh install of WP, under Network Admin/Sites/Settings for the main site the upload settings are:

Uploads Use Yearmonth Folders – 1
    Upload Path – /home/cjdifiglia/public_html/wp-content/uploads

I upload a png file to the main site and it works as expected.
In WP the File URL is:
    http://www.roadracetalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/RRT-Logo.png

In my server file manager the file is located at:
    public_html/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/RRT-Logo.png

I can add this to the “About” page and it is viewable on the web. The Properties for the image on the web are:
    http://www.roadracetalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/RRT-Logo.png

In the main site I also created a post with the image in it and it is viewable on the web as well.

I then create a subsite in WP named “test01”. Note that I have not created a subdomain or directory on the server prior to creating the subsite in WP.

    Test01 Site Settings

Uploads Use Yearmonth Folders – 1
    Upload Path – wp-content/blogs.dir/2/files

I upload a png file to the test01 site and after loading it displays a broken link image where I would expect to see the png image.

When I go to “Edit Media” in WP I can click on the “Edit Image” button and the image is displayed properly.

In WP the File URL is:
    http://www.roadracetalk.com/test01/files/2013/12/RRT-Under-Dev-Logo.png

In my server file manager the file is located at:
    public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/2/files/2013/12/RRT-Under-Dev-Logo.png

I appreciate any help that you may be able to provide. Please let me know if you would like any files or more info!

    Thank you.

The problem appears to have been with the hosting company’s installation tool, which had an option for installing WP as multisite.

I reinstalled as a single site and then updated to multisite manually. So far everything is working fine.

Hmm…. blogs.dir as the upload location for subsites was changed in multisite after WP version 3.5. Have you checked the upload paths & urls since you created the multisite manually?

I have had upload issues with my multisites related to this.

My understanding is that after 3.5, subsites should be by default uploading their files to: wp-content/uploads/sites/[site#]/[year]/[month]/title.jpg
