problem in IE — gap between head and content

i have actually managed to get WP running (JAY) but now i just figured out that the site looks yuck in IE because there’s a huge gap between the masthead and the content (sidebar and posts). i have changed the benevolence theme by theron parlin so the css is almost the same..
any idea? i have been looking around but haven’t found a solution for this particular problem..??? help…
