    Hello,

I am having trouble importing members to a new Ultimate Member site. Previously, I had a couple of sites Using the old Ultimate member version 1.3. On those sites I was able to import members using the “Import and Export Users and Customers” Plugin by Codection. I copied one of these sites to the new site, removed all the old members and updated everything, including Ulimate Member to 2.1.12. Everything seems to be working ok and even added a couple of members manually, with no problems. For those I added manually, when I look at their profiles, I see “Contributor” listed as the WordPress Role and the Ultimate Member role listed separately toward the bottom of the profile. On the “Users” page in WordPress Admin, I see the roles separated by commas, in one column, where on the old UM 1.3 sites, the WordPress & UM roles are listed in separate columns. I assume this is correct and just due to UM 2.1.12 changes.

I tried to use the same CSV format for importing members that I used for UM 1.3. In this I had a role column with the UM role. When I import this way, it imports the member, but when I look at the member profile, it shows the UM role when I expect to see the WordPress role (just listed as “Role”), there is no WordPress role and there is no separate listing for the UM role.

Does anyone have an explantion for this or a solution? Should I be using a different import plugin? Any help would be appreciation as I am currently stuck.

    Thanks, Gary

    Hi @gtdriski

Unfortunately, there are breaking-changes done between 1.3.x and 2.0. Did you run the migration when upgrading to 2.0? It should show a migration setup for data migration.

As for the import/export, we are still working on the extension and this will be included in version 3. We still don’t have an estimated time when this will be released but this has been added to the feature request list.

Thanks for the input. I followed the procedure when upgrading and everything seemed ok. I removed all but a couple of admin users (myself and one other), before doing the upgrade. These accounts would still be needed on the new site. They were WordPress administrators and Um admin. Under the WP Users tab, their roles show as Administrator, admin. Is this how they should be listed with 2.1.12?

I also manually added a user using “Add New” under WP Users. I selected Subsciber for Role and Active Member for UM Role. Now this user shows as Subscriber,Active Member under the WP users list. This all looks fine.

Later, I added another new member using the UM Registration form. In this case, the member got a UM role but no WP role. Is this the way it should be. When I look at the user profile for the WP user list, it shows their UM role where I am used to seeing just the WP roles and their is no separate listing for “Ultimate Member Role”.

It is just the import plugin that I used on 1.3.x doesn’t seem to work properly with UM 2.1.12. Is that to be expected? I know there is an article for import in the UM documentation and it memtions a couple of other import plugins. I don’t know if they would work better for me. What do you think?

Now I am not sure if UM members should have both a WP role and UM role or just a UM role. I know with UM 1.3.x, everybody had both a WP role and a UM role. Is that still the case with UM 2.1.12 or do members now, just have a UM role and no WP role?

When you say ‘we” are you part of UM or a plugin developer and what extension are you talking about?

Any help in how roles should appear for members in UM 2.1.12 would really help me. Maybe these members don’t get WP roles anymore. If you could clear this up for me it would be a great help.

    Thanks, Gary

    Hi @gtdriski

A UM role is attached to a WP role. UM Roles capabilities are connected to the WP Role. To edit the capabilities of a UM Role, you will need to install the WP User Role Editor plugin. Also, in UM 2.0, if a user has more than 1 role assigned to them, You must set a priority number in the UM User Role settings to make it as a Primary Role to use its setting.

I am sorry, but I still don’t quite understand how 1.3.x and 2.1.12 are different. Let me list some examples and you tell me yes or no:

Let’s say I have a UM role named “Active Mamber”

With 1.3.x if I added a member he had a UM Role of “Active Member” and also a WP role of “Subscriber”

In 2.1.12 if I register a new member with the UM registration form, he only shows a UM role of “Active Member” and no WP role. Is this correct and how it should be?

On the other hand if I add a member using the “Add New” under WP Admin “Users”, it has me select both a WP Role and a UM role in separate pick lists. However, the first pick list (what I normally refer to as the WP role) also includes all the UM Roles in the list. Therefore, if I add a new member this way, should I just pick a UM role from the first list and them not pick a role from the second pick list (labeded “Ultimate Member Role”)? If I pick a WP role in the first list and then a UM role in the second list, then they have two (2) roles assigned, not just the one they get using the UM Registration form.

Can’t you understand my confusion when adding a member from the UM Registration form can result in different role settings than you get when adding a new member using the WP Add User form?

The bottom line is I want to know what the role or roles assignment should look like for a UM meber in 2.1.12. Just a UM role or both a UM role and WP role? Which is correct? Only then can I figure out if I can bulk import new members correctly using one of the Import Users plugins like I used with 1.3.x.

If you can answer these questions, I believe I will know how things should be and how to do the import.

    Thanks, Gary

    — YES, In UM 2.0, you can now create a WP role in the UM User Roles manager and it will only show you 1 role instead of displaying 2 roles to the user.

I think there’s a problem with your migration that’s why it shows duplicate roles e.g. subscriber and um_subscriber. You can use either since they have both capabilities.

    Hello again,

Previously, you mentioned that I could have had problems with the upgrade/migration from 1.3.x to 2.x. How can I know that the upgrade/migration completed correctly? Are there any files/database tables I can look at to determine this? Is there any document to help with this?

Also, if I do have a problem I might want to totally remove UM and start over by doing a clean install of the latest UM on the site. Other than deleting any users/members and then deactivating and deleting UM, are there any files and database tables that I would need to manually remove?

    Thanks, Gary

    Hi @gtdriski

You can also check the user uploaded files in /wp-content/uploads/ultimate-member/

We also store the user data in wp_user and wp_usermeta tables.

I am at my wits end with this. I removed all the users except for the main WP Administrator. I then deactived and deleted UM and made sure the UM plugin folder had been removed. I then checked the wp_user db table to make sure we just had the one Admin users. I then removed all references to UM I could find in the wp_usermeta db table. I also went into the wp_options db table and removed all “option_name” records that started with “um”.

At this point I felt I had a clean site, so I installed and activated the latest UM (2.1.12). I then started configuring UM. First I went through and setup all the settings, no problem. Then I went to User Roles and to my stunned suprise, all the previous UM roles were still there. How did they hang around. To top it off when I go to edit them, all the “WP Capabilites” checkboxes at the bottom of the screen are totally missing. I took a deep breath and said no problem, I will just delete the UM roles and then recreate them. I checked each UM role, selected “Delete” and then clicked “Apply”. It stated “User Role Deleted Successfully.”, but when I refresh the user roles screen, they are still there and no matter how many times I try, I can’t get rid of them.

What am I going to do. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of these UM roles, so I can start clean and recreate them with the “WP Capabilites”. A detailed, step by step guide is what I need. Please help.

    Gary
