# problem creating page template

 * I cannot get the theme editor to recognize my new page template. I followed the
   directions [here](http://codex.wordpress.org/Pages#Page_Templates) and cannot
   see the new page. Any help is much appreciated.

 * Did you ‘link’ your Page to the template in Page Template box of Write->Page?
 * You also need this type structure at the top of your page template:
 *     ```
       <?php
       /*
       Template Name: mypage
       */
       ?>
       ```

 * If there is no default page.php file AND your custom template – the Page Template
   option will not show up in thr Write area. You need both: the default page.php
   + your template.
