Problem adding ad's above header on Swift Theme

I’ll apologise in advance as I am a total noob I’m afraid. I’m very new to wordpress and have quickly learned I’m not nearly as tech savvy as I’d once thought. I know little to do with HTML and nothing about CSS (are they the same thing? – see I told you, noob!)
Anyway obviously this is my first post on the wordpress forum so I’m not sure how quickly (if at all) to expect an answer but I am hoping to get my blog fully moved over from blogspot by the 1st July so fingers crossed I will resolve this by then.
I’ve tried a ton of themes and Swift is by far my favourite but I have one major issue. I am registered with a blogger collective that requires certain ad placements, one of which is at the top of the page. Whenever I ad the HTML in the ‘ad management’ options for Swift the entire title page disappears along with my header.. I basically have my ad and my sidebar directly below it. If that’s a terrible description I can provide screen shots.
I can only imagine my way round this will be inserting HTML but I don’t want to go messing around with that if I can change it within the theme… any suggestions?

See if there is an open html tag in your ad, specially the div tag.

oh!! I’m so pleased you responded!
I was just pasting in the html like i did with blogger.. do i have to add the <div> </div> ?

the ad did show up fine it just screwed up everything else

also while I have you (I may not get the chance again) I have to ask..
I have only one other issue with the template.. Is it possible to adjust the width of the side bar? I looked at it but as it’s all %s and when I altered them it didnt seem to have any impact. – Perhaps I should have stuck with blogger lol

Its not possible to customize the sidebar width in this version.

There is something wrong with your ad code. Try getting the code again, or contact the website from where you got the code.

out of interest, is it possible in the upgraded version? because it’s really the only thing missing and i’d pay for the perfect theme!
might the issue be that i’d added the <centre>?
because otherwise it’s identical to the original code i was given and is the code still running on my blogspot blog

oh my god it’s DONE!!! i’ve been trying to fix that for a weekk!! lol
I just took out all the cheeky paste bin extras and its finally up and running and centered! thanks for all your help!

looks great. Set up the menus, appearance -> menus

Try the pink color scheme.
