• Hi, is there a way of marking comments/replies as private?

And also how are you getting round GDPR? Because people have the legal right to be forgotten and irrespective of how difficult is to be done, you still have an obligation to adhere to regulations that are lawful.

Does blocking an account hide all comments that have been made public?

    Thanks

Not so far. This is the only plugin that does that:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/private-user-comments/

Or you just can moderate comments and never approve them?

Sorry not on own site, when replying or posting on here wordpress.org

That’s something you need to take up with the individual website owners. There are well-known methods to deal with those issues… plugins and code to be added to the website.

I don’t worry with any of that on my own sites as I’m U.S. based…

You cannot mark your comments here as private, nor can they be deleted or edited (after your editing period closes).

If you wish to be forgotten, edit your profile to remove anything personally identifiable and stop using it.

How would you rate your response as being helpful?

Please can you score yourself 1 to 10

1 not at all and 10 you gave a professional response because this is a public thread and want others to see that you love being a (volunteer) moderator and take pride in helping people in the WordPress community.

Amd please rate how well you think you answered the question?

    Again 1 to 10.

Would you say 1 not at all because you couldn’t be bothered or 10, gave a clear response and answered the question in a friendly manner to the best of my ability giving as much information as possible. After all this is why I am a (cough, volunteer) moderator and took the time to answer this query.

Hi @swy2017 and how are you?

That’s a rhetorical question and I am closing this topic now and flagging your account for moderation.

    https://wordpress.org/support/guidelines/#being-mod-watched-or-banned

Here’s why: you’re apparently not interested in a dialog but you are interested in picking an argument. I’ll reply and close immediately after that.

You may not be aware of it but with possibly one or two exception, everyone here including you and myself is a volunteer. We’re all doing this on our free time and out of the goodness of our hearts. Honest.

Does blocking an account hide all comments that have been made public?

Not at all. All of your posts and replies remain publicly readable and will not be edited or removed. That editing and removal has been done in the past but only in extreme cases.

    https://wordpress.org/support/guidelines/#deleting-editing-posts

Search engine hits are never considered extreme.

When someone requests from the forum password reset email that their account be deleted, this pre-defined reply is frequently used.

    Hello,

I’m sorry, but on the site https://wordpress.org/ due to valid technical reasons there is no way to delete accounts there.

It is not that we are being obtuse or difficult or that we do not want to delete your account. But due to the way that the different systems are connected on that site we are (painfully!) aware that it breaks many things. It has been attempted in the past.

I’ve examined your account and there is nothing there that is personally identifying you. The email will never be shared with anyone. If you do not want to use your account on https://wordpress.org/ please simply abandon it.

    Thank you.

For anyone who feels that there is a GDPR issue, please give this topic a read. It’s a little lengthy but explains the matter well.

    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/gdpr-and-the-forum-of-wordpress-org/

At some point in the future deleting accounts may be possible here but for now this is the only option available:

If you wish to be forgotten, edit your profile to remove anything personally identifiable and stop using it.

Which is what Steven was alluding to before you decided to reply poorly.

Feel free to change or edit your profile if you choose.

    https://wordpress.org/support/users/swy2017/edit
    https://profiles.wordpress.org/swy2017/profile/edit/

Those links will only work for you.

I am now closing this topic. Have a nice day.
