Hi, great plugin! Just one question, since it is mentioned in the GDPR’s consent text, what do we need to indicate?

The site will not allow people to sign in, write comments or upload content. But there is a contact form.

So what should our privacy policy contain regarding the contact form? The dummy WP Privacy Policy does not have any specifics for this, only for comments and media. What specifics do we need to indicate for the contact form?

    Thanks!

    Hi @styzer

I think you should point out that the contact form stores email address, first name and last name.

Also if you have the “additional information” enabled also mention that it stores IP and browser name. But you can disable the “additional information”.

But I’m just a web developer, don’t take my word for it, for a definite answer you should consult with someone who is an expert in that area (GDPR and legal requirements for websites).

Thank you for your reply. I think it could be a great service to users to clarify what features you included in the plugin concerning retention of information, if any. We are in the post-GDPR era now, so this will always be a current concern. 🙂

    Thanks again!

    Hi @styzer

    You’re welcome.

The plugin itself does not store any information, it’s just the data you receive on your email.

Thanks for your reply. So then why include this option in the form: “I consent to having this website store my submitted information so they can respond to my inquiry. See our privacy policy to learn more how we use data.”

    Is this for convenience?

As well, if I use an SEO plugin, then there will be data stored by that plugin I assume.

The more I look into it, the more complicated it gets…

Well that’s part of the plugin from before we acquired it. But I’m guessing since the data is part of an email it is technically considered storage. Not in the database where the website is, but it’s still being stored.

As for SEO plugins, I don’t think any SEO plugins store or collect data about visitors.

The more I look into it, the more complicated it gets

It can get complicated, that’s why it’s best to talk to an expert, to make sure you get it all correct.

Thank you. I would encourage you to do the research in order to properly direct us, since it is now mandatory. 🙂

    Great plugin otherwise!

You’re welcome and thank you. Will pass it on to the plugin owner.
