I would like to change my username, and not just the nickname, but this seems unchangeable. You know, I want to change the part after “@” but if it’s not possible, then I would like to remove all my information but I can’t find how unsubscribe.
Any help? Neither privacy page shows any useful indication, typically an email address where to write: please unsubcribe me.
    Thanks

Due to valid techincal reasons, user IDs on wordpress.org cannot be deleted, modified or changed in anyway.

As you know already on your own WordPress installation that is not true. However this site is a collection of different software and systems that communicate to each other and use that user ID in many places.

It’s not that anyone does not want to help you with this, or wordpress.org is being obtuse or difficult. It is that deleting user IDs breaks the many connected systems here in horrible ways. It’s been attempted before and many things broke effecting almost everything.

I’m sorry but your user ID here isn’t a privacy matter. If you choose, simply abandon that old account. Please note that while you can remove all of your information on your profile, as a matter of policy posts and topics are not removed or deleted.

    https://wordpress.org/support/guidelines/#deleting-editing-posts

I hope you understand. Again, it isn’t that anyone does not want to help you with this but it really is not possible at this time.

Ok, so how can I close my current account?

@maurascuderi It’s surprisingly easy to stop using your account on these forums.

First, you remove all the information from your profile that you want removed, like name, nickname, etc. All that is editable by you.

Secondly, you stop using the account. Just, like, don’t log into it again.

There is no “close”, it’s just your username and password on a forum. Forget about it. We won’t email you unless you are subscribed to something. Which you are, actually. You’re subscribed to email replies from 5 different threads:

    https://wordpress.org/support/users/maurascuderi/subscriptions/

So, unsubscribe from those and you’ll not get any more emails from us.

You see, I’ve been very well and got useful tips, here, and there is no problem of mails (for once!). Problem is unfortunately I didn’t know the username was absolutely unchangable. I thought every information PUBLISHED could have been changed, becasue the important usually for a platform, website, portal, etc is to identify the person, in case it might be useful, and once WP.org knows my name and surname, we are good. Instaed, I’m obliged to have @namesurname around the web and this is not fair.
I don’t even know where is the legal basis of WP, guess in US, but I’m not sure this is NOT a problem of privacy (surely the guidelise say this, but guideline must submit the law. For instance in UE there is a new regulamentation on privacy and things could be different). The geo location should be doing greetings to your face and there should be no need to spend time to search it. Surely for who knows where to look it’s easy, but it should be for a new, too.
Moreover, in my casee, let’s say clearly, there are no links to anything that can ruin anything, the messages are there quite alone with a few answers and there are no such connections. I could be new at WP but not at web world, and so on, and I can see there’s nothing really preventing to delete my 4-5 posts with that username I would have willingly changed.

And the most important: it’s not hard to get that if you put pinkopallo or anything else in replace of maurascuderi after the @ the result is surprisingly that all the “connections” are just the same, they are maintained…
what logic brick am I missing?
I’m sure if you click on pinkopallo, and this is my username, you can find my profile anyway… or everything else marked by this username. No need to be an electronics engineer with a master degree in ICT, don’t you think?
Maybe the SW admins can allow the change of that username moving a simple flag in their back-end, don’t they?

Sorry, but no, we cannot change usernames. Usernames are the one unique item in our system that links our various systems together. Changing the username breaks that linkage.

If you want to use a different username, register a new account using that username, then stop using this one.

    (@maurascuderi)

All right, repeating the “many connections” as explanations is very convincing, especially after my suggestion, but, then, ok, got the attitude…
Now, is it possible to have the location on the platform where the Company is identified by its Registered Office, please?

We’re not a company. WordPress.org is a website where volunteers come together to help build and create the WordPress software. We have no “registered office”.

    grace

    (@maurascuderi)

Yes, obviously, but WP keeps information about people (not only, it’s even hard to take them back!), so WP, WP.org, WP community, or whathever, has to obey the law, and should have a phisical reference. Guess you don’t want to tell, that means I must spend time to figure it out by myself. Thanks. Told you I’m not a naive, nor in ICT nor in law.

The only information you can’t change or delete is the username, as I’ve explained above. I’m not quite understanding what your concern is here. If you want to abandon your forum account, then I told you how. What more is needed?

I mean, I can block your account so that nobody uses it ever again, if you like. That’s easy enough. What information are you concerned about us having? I’ll happily remove anything personal. But no, we don’t track you. We have more pressing issues to deal with. Nothing personal.

    grace

    (@maurascuderi)

I do not want “@maurascuderi” on the web.
Now, since you do not want to accomplish my request, I’ll try other ways, even if I should do other things, too, believe me. Less time to waste than you.
Now, I know my English is not great, because it is not my language, but I’m quite sute you got what I’m talking about.
Money or not money, volunteers or not volunteers, ANY associations, organizations, etc MUST obey law, in this case privacy law.
Now, could you please tell me the geographical basis of this forum, that is to say, wordpress.org? You know that it must exist a registered office, right, otherwise also the whole part on “Privacy” at the bottom of the page wouldn’t exist… and so on.
    Am I clear now?

User IDs here cannot be changed. That was explained above.

Money or not money, volunteers or not volunteers, ANY associations, organizations, etc MUST obey law, in this case privacy law.

I am sorry, but there is no such law that applies to this site.

That may be the case in other countries but that isn’t the case where this site is hosted in the United States.

I am not making any comment about what is or what should be about privacy and I am not making any judgement about your request. I am just again informing you of the following.

    1. User IDs here cannot be changed or deleted due to technical limitations on this site.
    2. No one is being obtuse or difficult with you. You may not agree but those technical reasons are valid.
    3. Despite what you may believe, there is no law that pertains to this place that requires your request must be honored. Data privacy varies from region to region. It’s a complicated topic internationally.

I’m sorry that you disagree but your request here will not be acted on due to those limitations.
