# Previous posts not appearing

 * I have my blog set to show 10 entries per page, but the previous_posts_link does
   not work. The page number increases, but the same items appear. How can I navigate
   to previously posted post in a custom page template? (There are about 20 posts,
   and when I set the number of posts to display at 20, they all show up, but not
   when I try to use the “previous posts.) The site is in Japanese, so it probably
   won’t help to post a link, but this is my code:
    ‘<?php query_posts(‘cat=3’);
   while (have_posts()) : the_post(); ?> <?php the_title(); ?> <?php the_content();?
   > <?php endwhile; ?> </div> <div class=”navigation”> <div class=”alignleft”><?
   php next_posts_link(‘« Older Entries’) ?> </div> <div class=”alignright”><?php
   previous_posts_link(‘Newer Entries »’) ?> </div>`

 * as you are using a query: `query_posts('cat=3');`
 * you would need to use the paged parameter as well:

 * maybe better explained here:

 * try to change this part of your code from this:
 *     ```
       <?php
       query_posts('cat=3');
       while (have_posts()) : the_post(); ?>
       ```
   
 * to this:
 *     ```
       <?php
       $paged = (get_query_var('paged')) ? get_query_var('paged') : 1; query_posts('cat=3&paged=' . $paged);
       while (have_posts()) : the_post(); ?>
       ```
