    If you’re seeing the error message “Error establishing a database connection”, you might be suffering from a brute force XML-RPC attack.

    Once you’ve restarted the database, installing the Jetpack plugin (ensuring Protect is enabled; it should be, by default) will prevent this kind of attack.

    It’s worth installing this plugin just for that, given that it keeps your website up for longer.
