I’m using BuddyPress for new user registration. I need users to require approval by an admin before their accounts are active. This is because certain portions of the site should only be accessible to users/subscribers.

Right now, new users become “Subscribers” even before they are approved. Is there a way to prevent the users from receiving a Role until AFTER they are fully approved and activated with this plugin?

If there is a way to prevent the role assignment, I don’t know how to achieve that. If you stick with this plugin for your needs(I understand if you don’t), you’d probably want to use the “Private Network” option. That option limits them to their profile only, until approved. However, note, that’s only if they’re trying to access a BuddyPress area of the site. It won’t block them from seeing blog posts or a woocommerce shop, for example.

Is there any way to change their user role from Subscriber, to something custom, once an admin fully approves their account?

Likely, as I know there are hooks right around the time of user registration that you could hook into. I believe I use at least one of those hooks in BPRO here, to assign meta data to the user right away that denotes them as “pending”.

Just nothing along those lines are in BPRO itself.

    Not to be unpolite 🙂
Do you know if there is a plugin which manage subscriptions sitewide?
Would be very useful to have their role “pending” from all the site WP/BP/BB until an administrator approve them…

    Thank you in advance

I don’t know of any offhand, especially any that have been personally tested by me at all.
