  • [ Moderator note: moved to Fixing WordPress. ]

I have a contact forms on my site but I’m getting spammed with – oddly enough – empty messages. The one thing they have in common is that the Subject field is always empty and the automatic This e-mail was sent from a contact form on message aside, so is the body.

Does anyone know if there’s a way of preventing a form being submitted when the user has not filled in the Subject and/or Your Message field?

I thought I was, when I double-checked after posting it had been turned off but even though it’s been running since shortly after I posted the above, several of these spam messages have come through. It’s not some system bug, I’m sure because there are a) too many inquiries to be believable and b) they all start with a number like From: 58f5c7f785656

Ok, if Jetpack is off. What plugin are you using for your form? Need to know this in order to provide help with making subject and body required fields.

Also, you can try adding a captcha control to your forms, this plugin will provide you that feature: Fast Secure Recaptcha
