    Hi

Just wanted to first say thanks for developing this very useful plugin, and secondly, mention how disappointed I am with the “bait-and-switch” tactics that you are using to forcibly monetize the plugin.

I understand that you need to make money to support development of this, but breaking user’s sites when they upgrade plugins is in my opinion a big no-no.

I train my clients to upgrade their plugins on their sites in order to ensure that their sites stay secure – what you’re doing now is training them that upgrading plugins will break their site. Even if I tell them to upgrade everything except this plugin, one wrong click on the update page in the future will break their site.

To be clear – I’m not opposed to you charging money for this plugin, because I think it is really useful and would be happy to pay for it to support it going forward. What I am opposed to is deliberately breaking sites when users upgrade plugins, which in my opinion is a really bad idea.

Personally, I think you are making a big mistake and destroying your credibility.

In my opinion, a better way to handle this would have been to create a new plugin and keep the current one up just for security updates.

    Hi mjmeintjes,

Thank you for taking the time to write your thoughts and share you concerns. I’d like to make it perfectly clear that I have thought about this a lot especially since a discussion on the issue with a fellow developer from this post here: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/words-of-advice
Right now, I have decided to hold off making any drastic removals. I may even keep the features ‘as-is’ in the free version and just simply maintain the plugin with bug fixes, security fixes, optimisations, etc.
I’d like to discuss this further in this post, but it is very late (midnight) and I have an early start tomorrow. I just wanted to briefly write this post to reinforce that I am not going to do anything right now and the plan is not set in stone and thus is still open for change in direction.
Feel free to reply with a follow-up, but from me, it’s good night and thanks again for your post.

    Regards,
    Damian
