Support » Fixing WordPress » Pretty basic permalinks problem on vanilla install

  • Hi, I have a default vanilla 3.1 install with NO plugins installed or deactivated. It is on a test subdomain.

I want to be able to have a permalinks structure like this:

    /%category%/%postname%

Where I have made “projects” the category base.

This gives me the opportunity to have a web url that looks like this:

    http://www.mywebsite.com/projects/projectcategory

When I go there it will bring up a list of posts. This is great and exactly what I want, however when I click on one of the posts my URL becomes

    http://www.mywebsite.com/projectcategory/postname

Notice that projects is gone? I lose the projects whenever I’m viewing a post. It seems this is impossible for WordPress to retain this link. It’s a very basic problem, so maybe someone can shed some light if possible please?

    Thanks

    Hmm…if I do this:

    Custom Structure: /project/%category%/%postname%

and leave the Category base as (notice the s on the end)

    Category Base: projects

It’s halfway there but the s drops out when navigating through the links. WordPress cannot handle if they are both the same thing though which would have been perfect. 🙁
