    Hi,

My blog at http://tech.mahesha.com is sending 500 – Internal Server Error responses. When I look in the errors.log file, I see a bunch of these errors:

[Tue Nov 24 10:38:42 2009] [error] [client 149.117.7.28] Premature end of script headers: index.php
[Tue Nov 24 10:39:23 2009] [error] [client 149.117.7.28] Premature end of script headers: index.php
[Tue Nov 24 10:41:05 2009] [error] [client 209.85.238.214] Premature end of script headers: index.php
[Tue Nov 24 10:41:46 2009] [error] [client 209.85.238.214] Premature end of script headers: index.php

I haven’t touched this WordPress installation for last two days (when I made my last post.

In order to get to the bottom of this, I downloaded WordPress 2.8.6 and created a brand new (clean) blog. All I changed was wp-config.php to point to the database/table pertaining to this blog. Even that results in the same ‘Premature end of script headers’ errors.

This leads me to believe that there may be a problem in the database itself.

Is there a way to verify the database and sanitize it? How do I debug this issue?

I use the IntenseDebate plugin to manage comments. Do any plugins update the database in such a way that could potentially render it unusable?

    Thanks,
    Mahesh.

  • Hi,

It seems that your theme is not compatible with the installed wordpress version. Please change your theme to default and have a check.

    Thanks,

    Shane G.

    Hi,

Thanks for the tip. I cannot get to the admin section either. Get the same error page.

As a result, I cannot change the theme the proper way – via admin. But I moved the themes/my_theme directory out of the way and created a symbolic link so that my_theme points to the default theme. No good.

Since I could not get to the admin panel, I think theme may not have to do with the problem.

Also, like I mentioned in the original report, I tried this database in a clean WP install, with the same result.

I think it may have been a case of corrupt database. I restored the MySQL database from a day old backup. The problem seems to have been resolved. At least for the time being.

But if there is some plugin (IntenseDebate, etc.) or client (WordPress for BlackBerry, etc.) misbehaving, I’ll need to keep a close watch.

    Thanks,
    Mahesh
