Support » Fixing WordPress » Precise help needed with creating ‘new page’ please

  • Hi there,

I have been reading the codex and have to say I am totally confused over creating a page for a specific location. I was hoping someone could go though it with me.

    Here is what I want.

Currently I have a folder called history with an index.php file in it. This is a static part of the site.

Basically I want this as part of WP. so all my ‘history’ articles are in WP database exactly looking like my static site.

    So I need help on:

    1. creating the template and assigning it to a page
    2. having only the ‘history’ category showing on the ‘history’ page.
    3. creating the same style of layout on the ‘history’ index.
    4. not showing the history posts on the main root index of WP.

Can anyone possibly guide me though this procedure? Pleeeaaaase 🙂

  • Hmmmm surprised no one was able to offer any gidance here.

Did you really expect someone to just jump in and donate their time, just like that? Where did you learn that approach, if I can ask…very interesting.

If the codex confuses you, I suggest you start simple, making as many mistakes as you dare, and build from there.

I built a pages only site, using several plugins and tactics I learned from the codex. Off hand, it sounds like my site is basically the layout you describe.

If so, I’ll be happy to lend pointers, but details are all on you, as your specifics are just that.

This may be one those things that isn’t quite as cookie-cutterish as it may seem, meaning someone’s ‘precise’ helping is likely to be more like someone’s building your site for you.

You should DIY so you can be self-supportive later – if you can’t swing that much, you might want to consider not doing it at all, or finding someone that you can pay to do it all for you.
