Once the optiimze Google fonts option is checked, we automatically preload it so you don’t have to do anything else. As to the link, it includes all the weights and styles you are going to use on your page. For example, if you’re not using italic 700 or 100,200,300 weights for example, you don’t need to load them. Consuld with your designer for more information on that matter.

Okay, thanks for this. I didn’t know they were automatically loaded. So we’d just have to add in italics and bold, for example, like the URL below, is that correct?

One last thing: from the test of the ppwc5.ca website at:

    https://webpagetest.org/result/211115_BiDcG2_2cfeab446cadc40a87a0e7222c19ec34/

can you tell if the fonts are preloading or not? Is that possible? Thanks so much again.

    Hello @portpass1974,

I confirm the fonts are preloaded on the website. Still they are including many weights and styles. You can discuss the case with the website designer and leave only the used styles as Hristo explained above.

    Best Regards,
    Elena

Hi Elana. Okay, thanks for that. And finally, how can you tell if the fonts are actually being pre-loaded? Is there a way through a page speed test or inspecting the elements on a page? Thanks again.

When the font is preloaded its content is being included in the head section of the website.

I have inspected the webpage and confirmed this. It is also minified and combined as per the additional optimization options enabled on the website.

    Best Regards,
    Elena
