• We have been using PowerPlug for years, and all of a sudden with the new WP update it has stopped playing on the actual WP post but if you hit pop up it plays on that page. Any thoughts??

    Thanks in advance

Go to PowerPress >> Settings, Advanced Mode >> Website >> Having issues? and try the different options in the dropdown menu. Select the first option and click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the page. If the first option doesn’t solve the problem, repeat the process with the other options in the menu.

Playing with the advanced features didn’t change anything, but very interesting, it’s working on some of the posts on the website
    https://esopodcast.com/the-earth-station-who-podcast-episode-176-the-steven-moffat-era-pt-1/

    but other still not:
    https://esopodcast.com/pop-culture-cosmos-episode-seventy-three/
    https://esopodcast.com/the-42cast-episode-25-chicago-tardis-2017-big-finishs-first-doctor-adventures/

The interesting thing is if you click on the Play in new window the player in the new window works.

    Thoughts?

How are you adding the player to your site? Are you letting PowerPress insert it automatically or are you using the PowerPress shortcode? If it’s the shortcode, be sure you’re adding it on the Text side of the post editor. Adding it on the Visual side doesn’t always work right, for some reason.

No we letting it put in automatically not adding any code. We have been doing this for over 5 years and never had an issue with this and it’s not on all our posts. Just some shows. Thanks for the suggestion.

I loaded both of your linked pages in Safari and Chrome on my iMac, and both pages showed the media player.

We’ve noticed that sometimes ad blockers or security/privacy apps will block the media player. So, if you’re using any of those, you may want to turn them off temporarily to see if that makes a difference.

You can also troubleshoot for conflicts between plugins and/or your WordPress theme. More information on how to do that here:

The media player has been showing up and like i have written above. The player isn’t playing on the post on the links I posted above (42 Cast and Pop Culture Cosmos), but it’s working when you hit the play in new window (and I did test also on Mac with Firefox, Chrome and Safari). But shows like the FlopCast and Earth Station Who the player is working.

    So that’s the issue.

Sorry for the confusion on my part.

One thing I noticed is, when I go to this post:
    https://esopodcast.com/the-earth-station-who-podcast-episode-176-the-steven-moffat-era-pt-1/

And click the Download link underneath the media player, my browser navigates to the media file URL and begins playing the file in the browser’s basic media player.

    When I go here:
    https://esopodcast.com/pop-culture-cosmos-episode-seventy-three/

And click the Download link, it forces the browser to download the media file. It doesn’t just open it up into a basic player like it does for the other episode. Is it possible that when you uploaded the media file for this episode, you gave it a “force download” or “don’t stream” attribute of some kind?

I also see that the file that does play properly is hosted on your local WordPress site, while the one that doesn’t play back is hosted by AWS. So, you may want to check your AWS settings.

we have 23 different shows with podcasts from all over posting on our site, these two (PCC and 42 Cast) are the only ones having issues.

One thing i noticed is that the 42 Cast is hosted on bluberry, which makes it even more interesting (and the issues with these are new, before recently it wasn’t an issue)

    [audio src="http://media.blubrry.com/podcast_the_42cast/www.42cast.com/wp-content/audio/42cast_25.mp3" /]

Weird when i click on download on the 42 Cast or PCC their show just start playing in the window. Wonder what’s blocking the Bluberry player, just for these shows.

    Thanks

This media file isn’t hosted by Blubrry. It’s using Blubrry stats:
    [audio src="http://media.blubrry.com/podcast_the_42cast/www.42cast.com/wp-content/audio/42cast_25.mp3" /]

    This part of the URL:
    http://media.blubrry.com/podcast_the_42cast/
Is a Blubrry stats media redirect URL.

This part of the URL is the actual media file URL:
    http://www.42cast.com/wp-content/audio/42cast_25.mp3
(You can copy/paste just that URL into a new browser tab and it should start playing, it did for me.) This media file is being hosted by 42 Cast on their own website. When I press play for this one on the media player, it plays back just fine.

The other one, where the media is hosted by AWS is having the issue with media player playback. This looks like an issue with the media file/and or the server hosting the file as opposed to the media player itself.

Played with the URL for the 42 cast and it’s playing on it’s own, but still not the player on the our site. (Yes it’s playing on the open in a new window or in download), So not sure what the issue is with the player. It’s very strange. Same with PCC. Odd

This is likely happening because the correct content type / mime type is not set for those audio files. I looked at the headers for http://awscdn.podcasts.com/Pop-Culture-Cosmos-Episode-73-943b.mp3 (doesn’t play in player) and the content-type is set to “application/octet-stream”, which is not an audio type. This is why the browser doesn’t recognize it as an audio and tries to download it instead if you click the link.

On the other hand, for esopodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Earth-Station-Who-Ep-167-1.mp3 (plays in player) the content type is audio/mpeg, as it should be.

Do you know if anything recently changed in the way you upload your files for that first show? If you are uploading to s3, there is a way to set the content type both programmatically or through the s3 console (under metadata). Setting the correct content type should solve the issues you’re experiencing.

Still running into the issue with the two shows, have you guys had any issues with any of the updates from wordpress or other plug ins?? Up until two weeks ago these shows played with your plugin ?? and both play on the pop up player and download, so I’m wondering if it’s your plugin that’s not working right??

The pop culture cosmos link http://awscdn.podcasts.com/Pop-Culture-Cosmos-Episode-75-70b2.mp3 is on other players and it’s working great with those.. no issues at all so that’s why i’m wondering if it’s the bluberry plugin. Your help is appreciated.

    Hello @erthstationone,

I tested http://awscdn.podcasts.com/Pop-Culture-Cosmos-Episode-75-70b2.mp3 in my sandbox, when i click play it plays int he player. When i click play in new window it also plays in the new window.

As Lena mentioned if you update the content type for the episodes that are having the issue i think your problem will go away.

    Thanks,
    Angelo

why all of a sudden is this happening, it’s actually now effecting five of our shows, all on different hosting and on their pages (including the lipsum player) and working on the pop up and it’s own page. The example for I gave for pop-culture cosmos is just one show we have. He is on four other networks and none of them are having this issue. They are saving as mp3 files, and in the past BluBerry had no issues, I’m starting to think it might be the newest version of the player since it has spread to other shows, and we might have to think about looking for a new media player if that’s the case and it’s not fixed.

Here’s another example http://transmissionsfromatlantis.com/episodes/TFA140.mp3 that’s not playing with the player, they have been with us for over 5 years and never had an issue until recently. This is my concern with the BluBerry player.
