• Hi All,

    I have been going through the instructions and the forum about setting up a custom sport and I’m wondering if I should give SportsPress a try in a customised way, or whether it’s not the right starting point for a “1 vs n” competitor type of sport. example: a race.

    My sport is powerlifting and for each event there are categories of players, depending on body weight, age and being male or female. There are teams who train together but when it’s competition time it’s an individual sport.

    I thought about setting up teams and having players assigned to them, but I don’t think it will work, if the scores are kept associated with the teams’ victory/defeat/draw.

    Would you advise against doing this:
    Each lifter set up as a SportsPress Team;
    Players left unused;
    Create a male and a female competition for each weight category, for each event in a season.

    The end result I’m after is for each Event I want a league table that shows:

    Event = “September 2015 East division meet”
    Team “Joe Smith”, body weight = 100kgs, lift 1 = 200kgs, … lift n = 300 kgs
    Team “Mike Jones”, body weight = 103 kgs, lift 1 = 205,… lift n = 302.5kgs

    The result for the whole year is the sum and/or the maximum of the individual event scores.

    To get the scores I’ll want to calculate the maximum weight lifted by each lifter.
    Something like SQUAT =MAX(lift 1, lift 2, lift 3);
    BENCH = MAX (lift 4, lift 5, lift 6);
    DEADLIFT = MAX(lift 7, lift 8, lift 9)

    Is this too ambitious? Anyone tried building such a set up for other individual sports, like racing?

    Thanks,

    @np_lima

  • You probably could do it if you set up each competition and then assign each player to which competition(s) they are in. You can have players in more than one competition at a time. Then I would create separate seasons, for example September 2015 event instead of making it a event. Then you could assign these to the different competitions: September 2015 event Female x weight category.

    I wouldn’t use the events at all since you either have to have them set up as 1v1 or team vs team. Instead I would create player lists based on the season and competition they participated in. It should auto populate everything for you. Yet, you will need to create your own matrices.

    The plugin was originally designed for association football with other sports added later. It is difficult to set up for 1vn sports, but not impossible.

    @katherine – Thank you! I will give this a try. 🙂
