Posts won’t publish or save draft. No error message.

    I’m trying to make a basic text post like I usually do, but when I hit publish (or save draft) nothing is happening. The page refreshes and removes the last unsaved edit and the title. If I try to save draft it doesn’t save anything and just takes me back to the ‘all posts’ page. Happening with both classic and block editor.

    I’ve also been having trouble getting image files to upload into the library but I managed to do so by uploading into my wordpress account media library. The error message for that was about the server. I haven’t used wordpress much in the past year so something is probably out of date that is causing this. I’ve tried deactivating my classic editor (and all plug ins), all plugins are up to date, and I’ve tried a different browser. No luck.

    Hi @bridgejazz

    This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

    If you can install plugins, install and activate “Health Check”: https://wordpress.org/plugins/health-check/
    It will add some additional features under the menu item under Tools > Site Health.
    On its troubleshooting tab, you can Enable Troubleshooting Mode. This will disable all plugins, switch to a standard WordPress theme (if available), allow you to turn your plugins on and off and switch between themes, without affecting normal visitors to your site. This allows you to test for various compatibility issues.

    Using the troubleshooting mode I managed to get the text post published but the featured image is still not there and whats worse is that it posted while jetpack was deactivated so it hasn’t sent out a mailing list notification. I had tried deactivating all the plug ins before and it hadn’t helped so I’m not sure why the troubleshoot mode did. Possibly the theme but this is custom designed (hasn’t been edited in a long time so not a new change that could have caused it) so I’m nervous about messing with it. It is up to date.

    ETA: Even with the troubleshoot mode enabled, the featured image will not activate and the editor page refreshes without it.

    If you are using a custom theme, I think the best option is to talk with de developer, because this is a strange problem.

    @amieiro I’ve just noticed that the new posts aren’t creating custom permalinks and there is no option to change it. If I edit an older post there is a URL slug that can be customised. I’m again unable to create new posts even with the troubleshooter enabled. I don’t think it’s a problem of the theme.

    I contacted my hosting provider and they can’t see the issue either.
