If you’ve inserted the gallery shortcode into your post, it will appear twice. Just upload the images to the post but don’t insert the gallery, that should prevent it.

    Hi!
I’m new in WP and I don’t know anything about code, but I’m having the same problem…sorry to ask again, I’m not sure that I understood your answer, cause It does not work for me…
I’m trying to create images galleries into my posts, and I would like that some of them look like the home page, with circles features. If I upload images one by one, they appear without any layout, just the way they were in the post. At first, the only way to get the circles into the post was to create a gallery with my images and choose the “gallery” format. But the images displayed twice, once as circles and once as squares.
Then I found that when I erased the hole gallery, the circles stayed there for some mysterious reason, but I don’t think this is the right way to resolve the problem, cause i couldn’t edit my gallery anymore.
But now, i don’t know why, i can not even create a gallery with circles! Its shows up only as squares….
    Could you help me?
Thank you very much! and sorry for the “basic” questions…

Actually this is the correct solution. The theme automatically finds the attached gallery images for the post and displays them.

To edit your gallery, edit the post, then click the Add Media button again. You should see the Gallery tab on the left, where you can add to and make changes to the post’s gallery within the media area.

Thanks you very much for your quick answer!
The only thing is that now I can’t even create circles galleries anymore… do you have an idea why this is happening? (I dind’t touch to the code… only install an slideshow pulgin)

If you upload the images directly to the post (not through the Media tab in your browser) and set the Post Format to Gallery, they should display as circles above the post content area.

If that doesn’t work, try deactivating any plugins to rule out a conflict (it’s possible a plugin could modify how images get attached to posts, which would cause problems with the default display).

Also try going to the Media tab and check to see if the images in question are attached to their post — if not, you should be able to click the link under “Unattached” and attach them.

Sorry again about my WP ignorance, but how can I post images if its “not tnrough the Media tab”?
    Thanks you again,

That’s why we have forums, don’t feel like you can’t ask something because it’s too basic πŸ™‚

Went through, deleted the galleries and just put them in without the gallery. Now I get the circles above and the full images below. Basically the same issue as before but images instead of the gallery linking below the circles, the full images do.

Now I found out that the circles gallery only works when I upload new images (and not with images that are already in the media library).. is this normal?
But when I erase the gallery and try to edit it in the media lab I can only edit medias but not change the order of images or erase one of them, this is correct?
Anyway i didn’t figure out how to make a gallery if its “not through the Media tab”?

(ok! I undestood the last thing, i thought you were talking about the media button in the post, not the media tab in the browser, now is my english that fails…) =/

Don’t put any images in the content area at all — just leave it blank, or put whatever text you like there. You don’t need to insert the images into the post, just upload them to the post and the theme will do the rest!

You can “attach” any images to a post under the Media tab (if they’re Unattached). But yes, it’s usually best to upload any images directly to the post so they’ll be automatically attached to the post — easier that way!

You should be able to edit and re-order the images under the Add Media button on the posts, but not under the Media tab in your Dashboard.

It’s definitely confusing, the two areas contain the same content but have different functionality. It may help to read through the support documentation for the Media Library:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Media_Add_New_Screen
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/add-media/

(That last support doc is for WordPress.com, but it’s mostly accurate for self-hosted WordPress users as well.)

Hi Caroline, I’m just popping in to say thanks for your support and contributions to the WordPress community πŸ™‚

I should be thanking you, Andrew — it’s way harder to help support other peoples’ stuff than it is to support your own. πŸ™‚

Thank you very much, Caroline! I think I start to understand how it works… I’ll try this way and let you know.
And I have another completely different question: is it possible to add a “back” button to get back to the post when you are navigating trough the medias of a gallery?
Example: I made a post in which I create a gallery with images 1, 2, 3. When I click in the thumbnail 1, its goes to the image 1 in big, then if i click again its goes to the image 2, then 3, etc… I would like to add a button that allows to get back from a media (1,2, 3…) to the post with the thumbnails at any moment, I hope I’m being clear…
    Thanks again for your help!!!
