Support » Fixing WordPress » Posts should be in Block editor but come up in Classic Editor

  • I have a child theme based on TwentyTwelve with a Classic/Block editor situation. Posts are not editing in the Block editor. They come up in the Classic editor. I do not have the Classic editor plug-in installed. The WordPress version is current.

Also, I have four additional Custom Post Types on the site, those also open in the Classic editor.

I have tried functions that I thought would force posts to open in the block editor, but they don’t do anything. I’ve tried deactivating plug-ins to look for a conflict and don’t see any change.

I’m wondering how Classic can be involved when I’ve got WP 5.2.3 up-to-date with no Classic editor plug-in involved.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Are these old posts? As in posts that were created in a classic editor originally?

WordPress did build in a kind of fall back classic block for posts originally created in the classic editor. They will stay in this classic block until you click the three dots and convert to blocks.

If you are getting the classic editor when trying to create new posts then I am not sure.

I know what you’re talking about. That’s when you get a Gutenberg editing window, but have a classic block in the layout. That’s not what’s happening here. The Classic editor layout comes up for posts, no Gutenberg features at all. It’s the old editing page setup.
