# Posts, Pages Etc. Deleted

 * We have a word press site that laid silent for about 3 years. Most of the plugins
   and word press itself became out of date. Also, an unknown admin account was 
   created on the site and it was accumulating around 200 spam comments each day.
   The first thing we did was delete the rouge account. The problem is that all 
   of our posts, pages etc. have been removed from word press. The home page was
   also changed as a result to show the most recent post. Seeing as there isn’t 
   one the page is blank and the navigation bars are all gone. I have all of the
   files on my computer backed up. What is the first step to getting all of out 
   files back where they should be. Someone suggested uploading a backup of the 
   database in C-panel. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get our site
   back online.

 * What they said was right. To get the content back you need to re-upload a backup
   of the database from when you know it was “clean”.
 * If that’s not available… you could be out of luck. If the site ha been dormant
   for that long, and has been attacked by SPAM bots for that long, it might be 
   time to just re-start again as trying to fix an old out-of-date installation 
   that has lost all of it’s content is going to be a lot harder then trashing it
   all and starting from a base that you know is up-to-date and as secure as possible
   at this time.

 * We were able to locate an older clean file. We did not get back all of the content,
   but most of it. The only noticeable issue remaining from the hack is that when
   the site is indexed on a mobile device it is rerouting the user to an adult site.
   Is this anything you have ever heard of?

 * Yes, it’s a pretty common hack. That could be a setting in you `.htaccess` file,
   but it’s also possible that it’s coming from your browsers cache and it hasn’t
   had enough time to “forget” and get the new settings again. I’d advise you to
   have a look at the `.htaccess` file to see if there’s anything there that’s not
   meant to be, and again scan the files in the site, and the database, to see if
   there’s anything there that might indicate that sort of redirection.

 * KK, where can you view the contents of the .htaccess file. Will it be in the 
   editor or the FTP files?

 * You’d need to use FTP for that. The editor that’s built into WordPress doesn’t
   go that far down into the file structure.

 * Just checked .htaccess with dreamweaver and it appears to be clean. Hmmm…frustrating.
