Support » Fixing WordPress » Posts overlapping…help!

  • If anyone’s got a moment, I’d really appreciate if you could take a look at my site:

    You can see the problem: my two test posts are overlapping wildly. Unfortunately, me being something of a CSS newb, just looking through the code doesn’t seem to help me resolve the issue. Anyone with sharper eyes able to help? These are the parts of the main page template I think might be the issue:

    <?php if (have_posts()) : while (have_posts()) : the_post(); ?>
    <div class="content"><img src="images/splash.jpg"></div>
    <div class="post">
    <h2 id="post-<?php the_ID(); ?>"><a href="<?php the_permalink() ?>" rel="bookmark"><?php the_title(); ?></a></h2>
    <div class="main">
    	<?php the_content('Read more...?'); ?>
    <div class="meta">Published by <?php the_author() ?>, on <?php the_time('F jS, Y'); ?> <?php _e("at"); ?> <?php the_time('g:i a'); ?>. Filled under: <?php the_category(',') ?> <?php the_tags('Tags: ', ', ', ''); ?> &bull; <?php comments_popup_link('No Comments','1 Comment','% Comments'); ?> <?php edit_post_link(' &mdash; (Edit this?)'); ?></div>
        <?php if ( comments_open() ) comments_template(); ?>
    <?php endwhile; else: ?>
    <div class="warning">
    	<p>Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn't here.</p>
    <?php endif; ?>
    <div class="navigation_group">
    	<div class="alignleft"><?php next_posts_link('&laquo; Older Entries') ?></div>
    	<div class="alignright"><?php previous_posts_link('Newer Entries &raquo;') ?></div>
        <?php get_footer(); ?>

    So…what am I doing wrong here?

  • quite a few errors
    also your links go to 404 – why do they all end in .html?

    Still in the planning stages of the site, and I’m used to working with .html instead of .php.

    EDIT: That made my page validate completely, but I still have the overlapping posts problem. Argh!

    If anyone else can help, I’m still all ears.

    Chage the .post rule in your css stylesheet (.post starts on line 148) to:

    .post {

    That should fix at least part of the problem.

    Yeah, thanks, that does fix the posts overlapping, but now what I need to do is set up a text-area that stays inside that large splash image in the center. That was my aim. Any pointers on that?
