Posts not showing up on category pages (15 posts)

I'm running Custom Community on WordPress, and I have set up my site (the homepage for a podcast) to display posts on different pages according to category. So for example, I have an "Episodes" page that only displays posts labeled with the "Podcast Episodes" category.

Problem is, only my first and second posts are showing up on the Episodes page. I have "use post template" ticked under the Custom Community options for the page, and I have "Podcast Episodes" selected as the category. I have checked all the posts I want to show up on the page, and they are all labeled correctly.

Can anybody help me out? The site is heavyhandspodcast.com

    Thanks a lot!

Looks like you're new here - so perhaps you don't know that these are volunteer staffed forums so help may not be as fast as you would like. AND bumping isn't cool - http://codex.wordpress.org/Forum_Welcome#No_Bumping

That said, I looked at your site - the category page URL is this:

    http://heavyhandspodcast.com/episodes-2

Try double-checking your category names and the menu item for that page.

Yeah, I'm new. Sorry, I didn't realize it was considered rude to bump threads. I wasn't being impatient, I was just worried the thread would get pushed down the queue and disappear. My apologies.

Thanks for taking a look. Should the category names match the slug for the page?

And I'm not sure I know what you mean by checking my category names and menu items.

I just tried renaming the slugs of my categories to match the slug of the page I want them to post to. No good. I tried selecting the "Post Template" option at the bottom of the page editor, ticking the box for the category I want to appear there, and that doesn't work either. I tried doing this in addition to ticking the "post template" box at the bottom of one of the posts, and that still doesn't do the trick.

I'm really confused as to why the first two posts would appear on the Episodes page, but not the last three. I'm trying to figure out what I did differently for those two that I'm not doing now, but I have no idea what to look for.

Edit: When I try to change the page slug to simply "episodes" it immediately reverts to "episodes-2"

Alright, when I fiddle with the Post Template settings of the Episodes page I get some results. Keeping "use post template" ticked, I then selected the types of post to be displayed. Initially only the category "Podcast Episodes" was selected, meaning that all posts categorized under "Podcast Episodes" should have popped up on the page. This time around, I also ticked the "Blog Posts" and "Uncategorized" categories.

Viewing the page after doing this, two of my other posts were now visible. One of them, a "Blog Posts" entry, showed up, but my other blog post did not. In addition, one of the "Podcast Episodes" entries appeared, but the other two were still absent.

I've double checked all of the posts many times. They're all correctly categorized. So why are some popping under the wrong categories, and others popping up while others stay hidden?

That's often because you either have something in the trash with that same name or you have a static page by the same name. You can't have a static page and a category with the same name.

Okay, that makes sense. Do I need to change the page name? If so, how would I view the trash to see if there's a post with the name I want in there?

Could this have to do with past revisions of the posts I want to display being categorized as something else, or bearing different permalinks?

Go to the pages screen - at the top you'll see something like:

    All (16) | Published (15) | Draft (1) | Trash (1)

Click on the trash (it's a link) - then on that page, click Empty Trash.

    Okay. Mine reads:

    All (7)| Published (6)| Private (1)

I have the "Main" page set to private so that all of my posts don't show up there. Nothing in the trash.

Have you checked the menu items and categories?

What should I be checking for, if you don't mind?

Sorry for my general level of noobishness, by the way...

When I check "Uncategorized" for Episode 2, suddenly Episode 1 disappears from the page. I really don't understand what the deal is...

Not to be annoying and bump the thread, but what should I be looking for when going over my categories and menu items?

Sorry I missed this until now. I'm really not familiar with this theme, so not sure how much help I can be. I looked again at your site and it looks like the theme puts posts on pages. But still, what categories do you have under the categories screen?

I just ran into a similar issue and was quite confused as well. Then I remembered that I had run into this issue before. Did you check your permalink settings and make sure that they are set to custom with /%category%/ set somewhere within it's structure?
