Have you tried:
– deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
thank you for the help.
i zopped all plugin for later, then worked to delete.
after doing this, yes, in fact the posts reappeared.
i get the following msgs:
Plugin could not be deleted due to an error: Could not fully remove the plugin(s) advancedsearch/advancedsearch-lite.php
Plugin could not be deleted due to an error: Could not fully remove the plugin(s) widgets/widget_democracy.php, widgets/top_commentators_widget.php, tantan/tantan_reports.php, tantan/tantan_reports_widget.php
your help was verrry much appreciated…
verrry much, especially the direct, simple approach.
one further detail: “adsense” still runs, and i cannot find where on theme to delete it… any clues?
Are you using any of the widgets mentioned in the error message in your current theme? If you can FTP into your site, you might be able to get rid of the error by deleting wp-content/plugins/advancedsearch and then checking in wp-content/plugins/widgets for any of the widgets names in the error message and deleting them too.
AdSense might be bundled in with your theme. It does seem to be a popular theme add-on. Is there anything listed under Admin/Appearance?
thank you again… when i access by ftp, the only plug in showing is akismet, which i did not delete. te “cannot delete” appears theredfore to have been an error by the delete mechnaism.
looking at eaach set of code for the site accessible from theme editor, the term “pub-xxxxxxxxxx” (asdsense id) which is part of adsense code for the scriptplants the ads does not appear in any of the theme, sttle, css…… so i cannot see where else it might be located…
and again…thank you for being so helpful not doing the “go read the manual” stuff. it is appreciated.
also..i note that if i switch to a different theme, the adsense disappears…so it must be in the the theme files >>somewhere<< but i have no idea how to look for it other than to c/p the code into *.txt and then use “find”..which shows me nothing…as noted.
i got it fixed… and mentuon this for someone else’s possible use…
searched on te web for a fresh copy of the theme and uploaded it over the one there. this got rid of adsense…which had been put into a /div layer by a tech who put the site up for me, and had a .js in the header pointing to a file elsewhere with the adsense data.
again, thank you very much for some very useful help.
Esmi, referring to the above, could problematic plugins cause certain posts to disappear for example? I have 2 categories that had a dozen posts each and suddenly are showing 0 posts. I know I have not deleted anything but I’ve upgraded to 2.8.5 and upgraded certain files related to my theme recently. I haven’t searched the database yet to see if the posts are still there (still reading about how to do searches of my sql, never done that before). Thanks.
