• Hello,
I have not created a post in quite some time. In fact my blog has been lacking attention in the past few months, but I noticed several of my blog posts suddenly started to look very weird, as if the site thinks it should display the mobile version, while I am opening the post in a desktop. It shows a think strip on screen. I don’t know how to add a picture to this topic to clarify what I am seeing.
It seems to happen in Chrome, Mozilla and IE11.
I logged in to my WordPress admin page, only to find out the actual post authoring interface has also changed completely (there is something called blocks now).
If I knew how to disable auto-updates I would, as these significant changes without any proper release notes or instructions how to use these new features or “enhanced” features are very frustrating for people like me that are not IT professionals and just want to write blog posts.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • WordPress did not auto update the major release versions. It never does. But a lot of hosts pushed the major release to all their clients.
You can install the Classic Editor plugin if you want to continue using that interface.
If you don’t use the new blocks, it won’t matter if your plugins or theme are compatible. They won’t be loaded (by using the Classic Editor). But if you wrote a new post using blocks, that post will load new styles on the front end. And if your theme is not compatible, it might look different.

There is also a plugin called WP Downgrade, which lets you load whichever version you prefer. But definitely allow the minor updates, since those are usually security related.
