Posts Don’t Show With Upgrade To 2.8.6

  • Hi,

I just updated to wordpress 2.8.6 and the posts do not show. I get an 404 error. The Homepage Shows Fine but when I click on the links to other posts I get a 404. It’s not even the 404 page that the theme usually has, just the normal one. I tried to create a new test post and it previewed fine. Then when I published it, the 404 page showed again. This happens for all posts.

The homepage is the only page that works

    Not Found

The requested URL /*All Pages I Click Too*/ was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
    Apache/2.2.11 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.11 OpenSSL/0.9.8i DAV/2 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635

Anyone have this problem or know what I can do to fix-Thanks

  • Are you able to login to the WordPress admin at all? If so try going to Settings->Permalinks and resave your permalink settings. Not sure if it will fix it, but it’s worth a try.

    Thanks wphelpcenter,

A friend got to it before I could back here, and that was exactly the problem. I was hoping it was something simple and it was. Permalinks updated and site is back showing posts.

I have reset permalinks to default to find that makes links work, but we need permalinks like /pagename/ to work. These are broken with upgrade to 2.8.6.

I compared 2.8 earlier versions to this upgraded 2.8.6 site and .htaccess is same and wp-config.php is the same and wp-settings.php is the same.

Only change has been upgrade to 2.8.6 to break permalinks in other than ?p=1 default which works.

I checked and rewrite_module is loading and up-to-date

    What else could it be?
