 * Hi,
 * This has happened several times at random.
 * I will be entering a post in WP, and when finished, hit submit.
 * After that I am presented with a log in screen.
 * When I log in, the post has vanished and only a prior version remains.
 * Work is lost.
 * Why is this happening?
 * It happened once for an update and tonight, randomly.
 * This is highly destructive.
 * Is anyone aware of this?
 * “Code is poetry” sounds good and all, but the best poetry is code that respects
   the user and does not delete their work thoughtlessly.

 * It sounds like the same thing that happens on my wordpress.mu site. When it happens
   to me, it is because my login has timed out.
 * You shouldn’t time out while you are actively editing, but sometimes you do.
 * I’ve adopted a strategy of selecting the entire post and copying it to the clipboard
   before I try to save it.
 * That way I can always just Paste it back.
 * Just in case.

 * Thank you for replying.
 * This looks like something similar. It has now happened twice, and I’ve switched
   to a text editor.
 * I find it amazing that WP’s developers choose to allow this to happen, when popping
   up a page saying “You have logged out, here’s your buffer to copy and paste”
   or even finding some way to pass the buffer until after login is not difficult
   to do.

 * Have you tried:
 * – deactivating **all** plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works,
   re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
 * – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
 * – [resetting the plugins folder](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F)
   by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause
   problems.
