# Posting shortcode syntax without executing it

 * I need to post shortcodes, so users can read how they are used, but I don’t want
   them to run.
 * If I add [shortcode_example]your text[/shortcode_example] it will actually run
   the shortcode and not display the syntax.
 * I tried using the  html tag and it doesn’t work. The shortcode is still generated.

 * I’m surprised that this isn’t possible without a plugin. I try to avoid plugin
   bloat, so I guess I may have to resort to a picture. Yuck.
