  • Can someone tell me how to post some text (with an outbound link included in it) on the homepage in between entries for individual posts? Is this something I’d even want to do re: Google penalization. Would posting linked text hurt SERP ranking?

  • What’s the purpose of the link?

    advertising to an outbound site

and does linking out to gambling sites hurt your SERP ranking? Or is that an SEO old wives tale?

You can do it easily inside the loop. All you need is to add in some code to output the link.

As for it possibly hurting your own SEO, it’s possible, but it depends on your site. if your iste is related to gambling, then it shouldn’t be a big problem. Just remember to make it look as natural as possible. Obvious paid links could have a more negative effect then something that’s posted inside some real content.

What makes a paid link stand out as paid? I was thinking a blurb, a paragraph, and then a link within a couple words in the middle of it

I don’t know, you’d have to ask Google – and they have a very bad recordof telling people how to work their SEO algorythms…

What you said sounds like it would be OK. the main times that I’ve seen paid links stand out is when it’s a line of text that’s all linked with no other content around it, or a list of links under a “sponsors” area or something similar.

As long as you have some content around it, and the link is contextual, then you should have no problems.

Ok. thanks! Yes, I’ve always had all my linked anchor text surrounded by unlinked text. and nothing about sponsorships either.

Love the avi too! I love funny cat memes
