# postie/gmail connection problem

 * I can’t connect to gmail;
 * Using POP3-SSL (with TLS=No, Port=995, server=pop.gmail.com) I get
    Can’t open
   mailbox {pop.gmail.com:995/service=pop3/ssl/notls/novalidate-cert}INBOX: invalid
   remote specification
 * Using IMAP3-SSL (with TLS=No, Port=993, server=imap.gmail.com) I get
    Can’t open
   mailbox {imap.gmail.com:993/service=imap/ssl/notls/novalidate-cert}INBOX: invalid
   remote specification
 * I’ve enabled IMAP and POP for Gmail.
 * WordPress is running on MAMP Pro (PHP v5.6.2), with a self-signed certificate.
   Postie version is 1.6.12.
 * Very frustrating – any help would be much appreciated!

 * Thanks, but I had read this, and so I switched (on a trial basis) to MAMP Pro,
   which does support SSL. I know for sure that SSL is working, because in the same
   WP site I’ve got the plugin “Post by Email” working on Gmail, and Gmail insists
   on using SSL. There’s some other problem going on in the communication between
   Postie and Gmail.

 * I don’t have any more ideas for you. Something about your setup and the way Postie
   is written isn’t compatible.
