Support » Plugin: Postie » Postie plugin – “Mail Userid” must include “@your_mail_domain” – add a help note

  • Resolved MKSnMKS

    Just a note;
    I had all sorts of problems trying to find out why I could not get a post to work.
    The internal test helped with this, but did not help solve them problem immediately.

    It turns out that “Mail Userid” is not just the user name, but must include the “@your_mail_domain” as well.
    So this is actually the “email address” of the account.

    This has delayed my implementation of this plugin by months (and now I am pleased to start testing it for use).
    So to help improve the plugin, and the experience for other users, I have the following suggestions ;

    Suggestions for Improvements
    a) there could be an explanation (in the usual explanation location) just below the “Mail Userid” field, to say something like “This is your email address, e.g. ‘’ . or a pop up help message.
    b) in the test, when a fail is detected, and what the fail is, there could be an additional statement at the bottom, that suggests some checks or repairs, or further trouble shooting for the respective failures.
    In this case it reported something like “Postie failed to login to email account”,
    The message could have included, “Please check you password is correct and meets security needs, your username is correct and is correctly formatted e.g. ‘’ , and you are using the correct server details.”
    or some similar message.

    Thanks for making this plugin.
    I am keen to now start testing it.

    Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately what a mail server requires is specific to that mail server. Typically that is the full email address, but not always. I’ll update the help text.
