Support » Plugins » Hacks » Post Via Email – Need sender's address to display as author

  • My site will be used to post classified ads. I’m using the basic blog functionality–NOT a classified ad plugin–because users MUST be able to submit their ad via email.

Using the Postie plugin, I’ve enabled “blog by email” from any address. Submissions do not need to be approved by an admin.

Here’s the problem: When a classified ad is submitted via email, there is no way for people to contact the poster unless the poster has SPECIFICALLY included contact information in the original email message body (with a signature, for example).

I need a way to automatically include the sender’s email address in the post OR use their email address in place of the post author.

  • You should consider just having them put the contact address in the post. Here’s a couple reasons:

1 if a person has multiple email addresses, they may forget and post an addy they don’t want

    2. You might not be on or logged into the address you would like to use.

Seems more straightforward and should be easy for the user to do/consider

Sorry, that doesn’t answer the question

Thanks for the response, reverend1mike. Unfortunately, I need to have it posted automatically, because I know from experience that users often forget to include contact information–even after they’ve been told that must do so.
