Please do not post in all caps. It is like you are shouting at people. See # 7 here http://codex.wordpress.org/Forum_Welcome#The_Bad_Stuff
To answer your question, you need to use either excerpt or read more.
I have the the article shortened, however the read more is not showing up. instead there is [..] at the end of the post.
is there any reason why this is happening
please take a look at my website: www.edifyus.co
sorry guys not my intention. i didnt know the caps meant shouting.
Thank you very much for the help.
Hi there – your site isn’t loading for me so I can’t see whether or not you’ve already made a child theme – if you haven’t, the first step is to make one, and move your changes to date into the child theme*.
Next, go to the link NeoTechnomad provided above, scroll down to “Modify The Read More Link Text” and have a look at the example function there. Then, go into your child theme’s functions.php and add the function, modifying the “Read More” wording as you like.
Making a child theme means your changes won’t be overwritten when you update the theme. If you’re new to child themes, you can explore these guides:

Hi Kathryn, i have tried fixing the read more issue. it still doesnt work. the last time i copied the “modify the read more link” it messed up my wordpress.
I pasted the code into functions.php maybe i pasted it in the wrong place. i am soo confuse i have managed to get the blog back is it possible for you help me know the exact place i should paste it in function.php
Please confirm if you’ve made a child theme yet.
Could you provide a link to your website? The above links lead to a site running on Squarespace.
The function can be pasted anywhere in your child theme’s functions.php. Do not touch your original theme. Only make changes in a child theme.
A few things to watch out for:
– make sure there is one opening PHP tag at the beginning of your file: <?php
– make sure there are no blank spaces at the bottom of the file, and make sure there is no closing PHP tag
– make sure the file is saved as a plain-text file and was edited only in a code or plain-text editor
Let me know how it goes.
Yes i have created the child theme.
this is the code i am pasting into function.php
add_filter( 'the_content_more_link', 'modify_read_more_link' );
function modify_read_more_link() {
return '<a href="' . get_permalink() . '">Your Read More Link Text</a>';
}
is that the right code?
I have just pasted the code presented into the child theme function.php
it is still not working
When i click on entrepreneurship menu. it still shows the […]
here is my website
edifyus.co
This is the example function from the Codex:
add_filter( 'the_content_more_link', 'modify_read_more_link' );
function modify_read_more_link() {
return '<a class="more-link" href="' . get_permalink() . '">Your Read More Link Text</a>';
}
I put your code above in code tags; it got a little mangled because you didn’t use code tags so I’m not sure if your code is problematic or if it’s just the forum formatting that messed with it.
Can you paste the entire contents of your functions.php file into a Pastebin and link it here?
http://pastebin.com/
Also please provide a link to your site.
Hi Kathryn. Have you been able to check my website for
Edifyus.co
I did have a look but as I mentioned above, but as I said, none of your category pages is displaying any content – they all say “page not found.”
Do you have another link to a page where I can see post excerpts displayed?
Ah, I found one that works here:
http://edifyus.co/archives/category/science-technology
Could you please go ahead and do what I asked yesterday so I can do some direct testing with your file:
Can you paste the entire contents of your functions.php file into a Pastebin and link it here?
http://pastebin.com/
Thanks.
