    HELP ME PLEASE!
I have the opposite problem and I really hope I describe it correctly, please bare with me-I am not really experienced at this. O.k here it goes-I have a few pages on my site: Home,Because(my about page, News, Verbal Milk, Tha Burn, Beats, Tha Morning Minute, Feed These Seeds, and Contact Us. The pages that I don’t send post’s too work perfectly-(Home,Feed These Seeds,Contact Us, Because and News)
My problem is although the post that I have assigned to certain categories show up there as they should…THEY ALSO show up on every other page. I think in my excitement I saw this from my “Tha Burn” page

    [catlist category=4 numberposts=10 excerpt=yes thumbnail=yes thumbnail_class=thumb morelink=”Read More” title_tag=p title_class=lcptitle]

and copied it in my other pages that i post too. i now realize that is probably the problem. every post is everywhere and i only want music video’s in beats not cigar stuff from the burn page does that make sense? I want them completely separate and not seen under every page. Can anyone help and does this make any sense to anyone

  • Please do not confuse pages with categories…do not create categories with same title as pages…when making posts, add a cat not the same as a page title…your ‘pages’ are not the same as ‘news’ where your posts undoubtedly show..this is a likely a category controlled by a cat page template in your theme…review these topics here on the codex.

I think I understand your point and thank you for answering. Follow up question is-Do I then go into my dashboard and eliminate the categories and make new ones NOT the same name as pages? And if so, how will say my videos know to go to the “Beats” page? Probably boring you to tears with the simplicity of this question, so thanks for the advice.

Please have a read here on what happens with Pages (These are usually About, Contact, Services, ‘My Stuff’. Categories are linked to posts in the Post Editor, and when one follows a URL (custom menu item) to //yoursite.com/category/category-slug-title-or-id they should then see only posts in that category…if you have Pages and Categories with same Titles (slugs), you will confuse your theme/plugins/db/but most importantly search engines.

    ThaVeteran–

I hope you have it figured out by this time (I am new, and I have been working on my blog for the last 13 hours or so…finally have it up enough to show people, but still not done 🙁

This video on Youtube really helped me.

If you can make a custom menu, you can make/name categories easier than you did pages, and then just build them into a menu, leaving out your pages completely.

I am having a little trouble with one or two things, but mine are working pretty well. Just remember to tell the post which category it is supposed to be in (check a box on post page–easy).

    Good night!
